INAUGURAL LAKERS 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT PRESENTED BY NIKE AND FAN FEST TO TAKE PLACE

ANGELES - Ever fantasized about being a basketball
world champion? Here is your opportunity. The 2009 World Champion Los
Angeles Lakers will play host to the first-ever Lakers 3 on 3 Basketball
Tournament presented by Nike and Fan Fest, Friday, Aug. 14- Sunday, Aug. 16 at
L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
The spectacular event
will be spread across multiple city blocks with approximately 70 outdoor
basketball courts in and around L.A. Live to accommodate the thousands of
athletes who will compete for bragging rights, prizes and chance to be named
champion.
Players young and old,
men and women, elite and beginner are able to participate in the Lakers 3 on 3
Basketball Tournament presented by Nike. Brackets will be divided into
appropriate divisions based on a combination of skill, age, gender and
height. Teams may consist of a maximum of four (4) players and a minimum
of three (3) players. A unique element of the event is the ability to
build your own bracket. Players may sign up to play in brackets of eight
(8) or 16 teams amongst friends, family, colleagues, etc.
There are four main
divisions of play: Standard, Nike Elite, Special Olympics and Wheelchair.
The Standard division includes three categories of participants: adult, high
school (oldest player's next grade will be 9-12) and youth (oldest player's
next grade will be 3-8). The Nike Elite Division also consists of three
categories of players: Women, Men's 6 Foot and Under, and Men's Over 6 Foot.
Players will then choose between Recreational and Competitive levels of
competition at which time brackets will be formed based upon these criteria and
those delineated above. Special Olympics and Wheelchair divisions are
open to athletes of all ages and abilities, and are free of charge.

or mail in the registration forms to the designated address on the Web
site. Registration closes on Friday, July 31.
Fan Fest, beginning
Friday, Aug. 14, will be open to
the general public and will be free for all fans to attend. The
three-day experience will feature a variety of events at the Nike Center Court,
including the Nike Slam Dunk Contest, appearances by members of the Lakers and
special guests, live music, food and beverage areas, and basketball-themed
activities and competitions.

Nike will serve as
presenting partner of the Lakers 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Their name
and logo will adorn at both the Nike
Center Court in L.A. Live plaza and the Nike Elite
Division.
