But more often than not it's a glancing blow that gets a player writhing on the ground in "pain" as he waits to see if his acting antics have earned the striking player a flagrant foul or better yet, an ejection. When the player who looks like he's trying out for WWE gets up from the mess, we're disappointed that he's not bleeding profusely or missing an eyeball.
But in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Finals (or the ECF as the kids like to call it), we were finally treated to some blood like a hemoglobin-thirsty Kumite crowd. Mo Williams was caught with a vicious elbow by Anthony Johnson that lead to Mo being split open in two places on his face. Mo Williams was called for a foul on the play and Anthony Johnson was assessed a flagrant 1 penalty, which made Mo Williams have to shoot two free throws before he could get stitches in the locker room.
Now, while it looked like a freak accident to me, Mo Williams thought otherwise:
Mo Williams believes it was a cheap shot and intentional. I tend to disagree with him on this because I don't think that Anthony Johnson had that kind of time to react to the moment and decide to nail him. It was a basic basketball move that just happened to catch Mo in the temple.
Then again, I'm not the one that was hit so hard that I decided to dress up like Daisy Duke after the game.
