First Round - Second Round
1. Portland Trailblazers- Greg Oden, C, Ohio State
If GM Kevin Pritchard doesn't end up taking Greg Oden with the first pick, you can crown Seattle as the new San Antonio and you can expect Kevin Pritchard to be washing my windshield at a stop light as I run the wipers to get him away. NBA Comparison- David Robinson
2. Seattle Supersonics- Kevin Durant, SF, Texas
Let me set everybody straight here: THIS IS NOT THE NEXT JORDAN!!!! He is going to be great, but he is never going to be a Jordan type player. Not a bad position for the Sonics to be in. NBA Comparison- Tracy McGrady
3. Atlanta Hawks- Al Horford, PF, Florida
Call it a do-over for the Shelden Williams pick last year. Horford is a beast and will allow them to not have to give Shelden an extension in 3 years. GM Billy Knight finally gets one right. NBA Comparison- Elton Brand
4. Memphis Grizzlies- Mike Conley Jr., PG, Ohio State
Instead of going big, the Grizz set their point guard situation for the long haul. Is Conley ever going to be a top 3 point guard in this league? Probably not, but he is still the type of dynamic player that could finish with a couple rings. NBA Comparison- Kenny Anderson
5. Boston Celtics- Yi Jianlin, PF, China
I'd be shocked if Boston keeps this pick. Yi could be a great player or he could be another Skeeta. But the C's are in year 5 of the re-building mode and need to turn to some veteran help. NBA Comparison- Dirk Nowitzki
6. Milwaukee Bucks- Al Thornton, SF, Florida State
Al gets a huge bump in the draft stock going here and will pay dividends for the Bucks. About 20 dividends a night by the end of his second year. Thornton is a great scorer with a NBA ready body that will be great spreading the floor with Michael Redd.
NBA Comparison-Danny Granger
7. Minnesota Timberwolves- Jeff Green, SF, Georgetown
I really don't even care at this point who goes to my "beloved" Wolves. KG is about to be gone so you might as well take the best all around player. As of right now, I'm so dejected as a T'Wolves' fan that I'm just looking forward to my transition as a full time Charlotte fan as soon as KG gets dealt.
NBA Comparison- Josh Howard
8. Charlotte Bobcats- Corey Brewer, SG, Florida
As a brand new full time Cats' fan (if KG is traded before the draft as expected), I would be floored if Brewer drops to 8. He is a very good defender and a growing offensive player. It would mean they wouldn't be forced to overpay to keep Gerald Wallace and they could still manage their cap situation better.
NBA Comparison- Tayshaun Prince as a SG
9. Chicago Bulls (from New York)- Joakim Noah, PF, Florida
I will be very disappointed in John Paxson if he takes Hawes here because of his "polished low post game." There's having a good low post attack for the Washington Huskies and then there's trying to get post position against Rasheed Wallace and getting off a hook shot within 10 feet of the basket. When he does it against someone other than Nick Fazekas, I'll start to believe. Noah helps them the most here. NBA Comparison- Anderson Varajaeo
10. Sacramento Kings- Brandan Wright, PF, North Carolina
Brandan Wright was a borderline lock for #3 a few weeks ago. Kings have to take him here if he falls because of the potential. Kings aren't winning anyway this year or next year so they might as well try to build something here. NBA Comparison- LaMarcus Aldridge
11. Atlanta Hawks (from Indiana)- Acie Law IV, PG, Texas A&M
If Billy Knight wants another project player, take Crittenton. If he wants to get serious about winning within 2 years, take Law. Law has a winning mentality and a mental toughness the Hawks young guys could learn from his example. NBA Comparison- Sam Cassell
12. Philadelphia 76ers- Nick Young, SG, USC
If all goes well in his workout, Nick Youn may actually go #5 to the Celtics. Young alongside Iggy in Philly would be a freakishly athletic combo for Andre Miller to set up. They could earn an automatic bid to "have to check out this team for at least a quarter every game on the NBA League Pass" list. NBA Comparison- J.R. Smith
13. New Orleans Hornets- Thaddeus Young, SF, Georgia Tech
With Thornton, Nick Young, and Jeff Green gone, they settle for a risk with Thaddues. I'm not a big Thaddeus fan and I think he'll probably be another DerMarr Johnson in a couple of years. His heart rivals the heart of one Eddy Curry. NBA Comparison- Al Harrington
14. Los Angeles Clippers- Julian Wright, SF, Kansas
The point guard free agent class is loaded with people to take the strain off of Sam Cassell. And with Law gone, they'll go for the best player available. Julian is a fantastic talent with loads of ability in setting up his teammates. He's a great pick and gives them reason to get rid of Corey Maggette's attitude. NBA Comparison- Boris Diaw
15. Detroit Pistons (from Orlando)- Rodney Stuckey, SG, Eastern Washington
He seems to be the most consistent pick of the mock drafts other than Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Joe Dumars loves his toughness and ability to create his own shot. Should be a great combo guard to back up Rip and Chauncey (if he re-signs). NBA Comparison- Randy Foye
16. Washington Wizards- Spencer Hawes, C, Washington
Wizards take him because he was a mid lottery selection that fell to 16. He is a big upgrade offensively over Brendan Haywood, Etan Thomas, and any Calvin Booth type player they have. NBA Comparison- Chris Mihm
17. New Jersey Nets- Jason Smith, PF, Colorado State
He might actually be more of a 7 foot Keith Van Horn than Brian Cook. He has a decent post game but he'll need to be much stronger to be a starter in this league. He is very agile for a guy his size but so is everybody else in the NBA. NBA Comparison- Brian Cook
18. Golden State Warriors- Sean Williams, C, Boston College
Name something that deserves its own TV show than having Stephen Jackson, Jason Richardson and Sean Williams driving around Oakland, CA at night. It's like a reverse Cops series. This guy will look Chris Anderson look sober. NBA Comparison- Samuel Dalembert
19. Los Angeles Lakers- Javaris Crittenton, PG, Georgia Tech
He either goes at 11 or right here to Los Angeles. Phil Jackson loves big point guards and with a little discipline, Javaris could turn out to be a good compliment to Kobe. No-brainer here for L.A. NBA Comparison- Steve Francis
20. Miami Heat- Gabe Pruitt, PG, USC
The Heat are going to take Pruitt over Petteri Koponen which is a huge mistake. Petteri is a year or two away but in 4 years when he's paired next to Dwyane Wade, opposing back courts will make sure their ankles are double-taped before the games.
NBA Comparison- Devin Harris
21. Philadelphia 76ers (from Denver)- Glen Davis, PF, LSU
I've heard about the next Michael Jordan, the next Magic Johnson, the next Larr Bird for years. it's nice to finally see the next Oliver Miller. David has a smart agent which got him in shape before the draft to guarantee the first round for his client. Wait until the NBA paycheck comes and Glen computes that into Philly Cheesesteaks. NBA Comparison- Robert “Tractor” Traylor
22. Charlotte Bobcats (from Toronto via Cleveland)- Morris Almond, SG, Rice
Morris Almond and Corey Brewer alongside Ray Felton, Emeka Okafor and Sean May sounds like a great young team to put veterans around. NBA 2k8 just got a lot better for this new Bobs' fan. NBA Comparison- Allan Houston
23. New York Knicks (from Chicago)- Wilson Chandler, SF, DePaul
I'm still trying to figure out who this guy is just like I did with Renaldo Balkman last year. I'm sold on Balkman as an NBA energy guy. I'm not sold on Wilson. NBA Comparison- Renaldo Balkman
24. Phoenix Suns (from Cleveland via Boston)- Derrick Byars, SF, Vanderbilt
I love this pick for Phoenix and I hope they keep it. Byars is a great spot up shooter and a solid defender. He will probably pay the Suns to keep him and play alongside Steve Nash. NBA Comparison- Raja Bell
25. Utah Jazz- Marco Bellineli ,SG, Italy
This pick allows the Jazz to add scoring at the 2 and move Gordan Giricek for a backup point guard. Bellineli may end up being the Ginobili of this draft and you'll know he is if San Antonio moves up to grab him. NBA Comparison- Gordan Giricek
26. Houston Rockets- Rudy Fernandez, SG, Spain
Very athletic combo guard that can finish at the rim and surprise a lot of people with his jumping ability. Not too long into his career before he pulls a Bob Sura on Dikember Mutombo or Sam Dalembert.
NBA Comparison- Marko Jaric
27. Detroit Pistons- Daequan Cook, SG, Ohio State
Pistons want shooters to spread the floor and that's exactly what Cook can do. Cook really should have stayed another year at OSU and become a lottery pick next season. NBA Comparison- Cuttino Mobley
28. San Antonio Spurs- Jared Dudley, SF, Boston College
He looks like Ira Newble, he plays like Bruce Bowen, and he does all of the little things to help a team win that Popovich loves to have. He isn't a star in the making but he's one of those guys that every team wants to add every year. NBA Comparison- Bruce Bowen
29. Phoenix Suns- Petteri Koponen, PG, Finland
If he falls to the Suns at #29, they should definitely keep the pick and turn him into what they overpaid Marcus Banks not to be last season. Koponen could learn a lot from Nash and keep the medal to the floor when Nash transitions his way out of the NBA. NBA Comparison- A talented Beno Udrih
30. Philadelphia 76ers (from Dallas via Golden State and Denver)- Tiago Splitter, PF, Spain
He only plays in the NBA in the next few years if he goes in the first round. Well, I don't think he plays in the NBA period. He isn't very tough, he doesn't have as much game as people once thought and he knows that his best move is to stay in Europe. Perfect for Billy King.
NBA Comparison- P.J. Brown
